Silent Hill 2 Remake’s ESRB Rating Is a Positive Sign for Fans

We finally have an ESRB rating for the SH2 remake, and it's a positive sign for fans.

As the release of Silent Hill 2’s remake draws closer, the title finally received an ESRB rating. For remakes of games that originally included mature topics, the ESRB rating becomes a tool that hints at how much content has changed. As such, the Silent Hill 2 remake’s ESRB rating is a positive sign for fans.

You might have expected it, but the official Silent Hill 2 ESRB rating is Mature 17+. The reasons given on the site for the rating are blood and gore, language, sexual themes, and violence. This rating, combined with the summary and reasons for it, is a positive sign for fans.

Overall, it looks like the Bloober Team is staying faithful to the original SH2 and not toning down the horrors James encounters. The summary even references a line said by Maria in the original, which is another positive sign hinting at the team’s dedication to the source content.

This comes after we saw concern from fans when the combat trailer stoked debate instead of excitement. Given the lackluster and concerned reactions that wondered if the remake would remain faithful to the original, the ESRB rating is a sign of hope. Silent Hill, like many horror games, contains a lot of dark content. Anything other than a Mature 17+ rating would’ve caused concern that the remake toned back its content too much.

Silent Hill 2 remake’s ESRB rating is a positive sign for fans, even if we don’t have a set release date yet. This is high on my list of anticipated games this year, so I’ll be keeping an eye on any information related to it and keeping you all as up-to-date as possible.
